The view from Caroline Guest House

When I was looking for an affordable hotel in Canggu, I wanted three things: a convenient location, a good price, and a private room.

I ended up spending seven nights at Caroline Guest House near Echo Beach for just over US$95 (around KRW 130,000) in total.

Here’s what it was actually like, including the good and the not-so-good.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ The Room

First things first: this isn’t a brand-new hotel.

You can definitely see some signs of age here and there, but overall, I thought the room was kept fairly clean.

Across from the bed, there was a desk and chair, air conditioning, and a simple wardrobe with drawers and space to hang clothes.

One little detail I really liked was the window.

The room got plenty of natural light, and there was also a full-length mirror, which was surprisingly useful for checking my outfit before heading out.

Caroline Guest House - Fridge in the Room

And there was a fridge!

It sounds like such a basic thing, but some budget stays in Bali don’t have one. Having my own fridge meant I could keep cold drinks, beer, and fresh food in the room, which was especially useful during a longer stay.

๐Ÿšฟ Bathroom & Amenities

Caroline Guest House - Bathroom Review

The bathroom was pretty simple.

The only toiletries provided were a disposable toothbrush and toothpaste set and a small bar of soap, so you’ll want to bring your own shower products.

There was also a small hair dryer mounted in the bathroom, but honestly, I didn’t love it. The airflow was pretty weak, and because it was fixed to the wall, it wasn’t particularly convenient to use.

Hair dryers aren’t always provided at budget accommodation in Bali, either, so if you have long hair, I’d recommend bringing your own.

Two towels were provided in the room.

๐ŸŠ Pool & Other Facilities

Caroline Guest House - Pool Review

There’s a rectangular swimming pool in the middle of the property, with the building wrapping around it.

I never actually used it during my stay, but I did see quite a few international guests hanging out and swimming there.

One feature I really appreciated, though, was the elevator.

Caroline Guest House - Elevator Review

Elevators are less common than you might expect at smaller places in Bali, and this makes a real difference if you’re staying for a while and traveling with a big suitcase or if you’re simply someone who packs a lot.

Dragging heavy luggage up several flights of stairs is not fun, so having an elevator made things much easier.

There’s also a small convenience store on the ground floor, which was handy whenever I needed water or snacks without going far.

And right behind the guest house, there’s a laundry service, another small but very useful perk if you’re staying in Canggu for more than a few days.

โœ”๏ธ What I Liked About Caroline Guest House

๐Ÿ‘ฃ 1. The Location

Echo Beach and La Brisa Sunset

Location was easily one of the biggest advantages for me.

Echo Beach, known for surfing and its sunsets, is less than a 10-minute walk away.

La Brisa, one of Canggu’s best-known beach clubs, is only about 400 meters away, roughly a 5โ€“6 minute walk.

That made it really easy to walk down to the beach early in the morning or head over for sunset without having to call a ride every time.

Whenever I did need transportation, I also had no trouble getting a Grab or Gojek car or scooter from around the guest house.

๐Ÿ’ฐ 2. Great Value for the Location

I paid just over US$95 (around KRW 130,000) for seven nights, including taxes and service charges. That worked out to roughly US$14 per night.

For a private room in this part of Canggu, I thought that was genuinely good value.

Prices obviously change depending on your travel dates and how early you book, but when I was comparing rates, booking earlier was noticeably cheaper.

I checked several booking sites and Agoda had the lowest rate for my dates, so that’s where I booked. My reservation also came with free cancellation until the day before check-in, which made it easy to book early without feeling too locked in.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ 3. 24-Hour Reception

Caroline Guest House - Entrance and the road in front of the Hotel

The guest house is on a main road, and I personally felt comfortable coming back at night.

Reception is also open 24 hours.

This was especially useful for me because I arrived in Bali late at night. Even at that hour, I had no problem checking in.

๐Ÿงน 4. Daily Housekeeping

This was another thing I appreciated more than I expected.

Caroline Guest House - Room Image

Not every guest house in Bali provides housekeeping every single day, but Caroline Guest House did during my stay.

Housekeeping was available until around 5 PM as well, so even if I didn’t request it until later in the afternoon, I could still get my room cleaned.

โญ• Who I’d Recommend It To

I’d consider Caroline Guest House if:

  • Location and easy access around Canggu matter to you
  • You’re traveling solo
  • You want somewhere that feels reasonably safe
  • You’re looking for a private room on a budget

But there are a couple of downsides worth knowing before you book.

โœ”๏ธ What I Didn’t Like

โณ 1. It’s Not a New or Luxurious Property

If you’re looking for a stylish new hotel or a more luxurious Bali stay, this probably isn’t it.

Caroline Guest House - guest house hallway

The property is older, and you can see signs of wear in different parts of the building and rooms. Most of the rooms also seem better suited to solo travelers or, at most, two to three people.

If you’re traveling with four or more people and want everyone in the same room, I’d look at other options.

๐Ÿšฟ 2. The Shower Head Is Fixed

The shower head in my bathroom was fixed to the wall, which means replacing it with your own shower filter would be difficult.

If you’re particularly sensitive about water quality, that’s something to keep in mind.

So, Would I Recommend Caroline Guest House?

Caroline Guest House definitely has its downsides. It’s older, it isn’t luxurious, and there are better options if you’re traveling with a bigger group.

But its strengths are pretty clear too.

Affordable Hotel in Canggu - Caroline Guest House Entrance

For me, the combination of location, a private room, 24-hour reception, daily housekeeping, an elevator, and a very affordable nightly rate made it a practical choice for a longer solo stay in Canggu.

If you’re choosing accommodation based on value and convenience rather than having a beautiful new resort-style room, I think it’s worth comparing with other stays around Echo Beach.

As always, I’d check the latest photos, reviews, and rates for your own dates before booking. Prices can vary quite a bit depending on the season and how early you book.
